Chinese-born Canadian music singer Kris Wu was found guilty of offences including rape on Friday and given a 13-year prison sentence by a court in Beijing.

From November 2020 to December 2020, the man, also known as Wu Yifan, raped three women, according to the court in Beijing’s Chaoyang District.

It also found him guilty of assembling a throng to indulge in sexual promiscuity in July 2018, the court’s official WeChat account reported.

Additionally, Wu was ordered deported by the court, even though Chinese defence attorneys have claimed deportations are rarely carried out until after a prisoner has served their time.

On July 31 of last year, Wu was arrested in Beijing following a public accusation from a female student in China, aged 18, that he had induced her and other girls, some of whom were under 18, to engage in sexual activity with him.

According to official media, officials from the Canadian embassy in Beijing attended the sentencing.

When contacted by Reuters, the Canadian embassy did not immediately provide a statement.
