Israel Adesanya released after airport metal knuckles arrest

Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya, a former UFC middleweight champion, was arrested at JFK Airport on Wednesday for possessing metal knuckles.

The use of metal knuckles is prohibited in New York. Possession is a misdemeanor of Class A. The TSA allows metal knuckles to be stored in checked luggage but prohibits their carriage in carry-on bags.

TMZ reports that Adesanya was arrested near the American Airlines terminal at JFK on Wednesday around 2:00 p.m. local time.

Tim Simpson, Adesanya’s manager, told MMA Fighting in a statement that they had resolved the matter and the UFC star was on his way home.

“Israel was handed a gift by a fan, which he put in his luggage,” Simpson said.

“When flagged at the airport, Israel quickly disposed of the item and cooperated with authorities. He has complied accordingly. With that, the matter was dismissed, and he’s on his way home,” the statement read.

This comes on the heels of Adesanya’s UFC loss to Alex Pereira during a tough week for the Nigerian-New Zealander.
