Elon Musk asks Twitter users if Donald Trump should return

Elon Musk

Just hours after saying he hadn’t decided whether to let Donald Trump back on Twitter, Elon Musk, the new social network owner, asked users to vote on letting Trump back on.

“Reinstate former President Trump,” the billionaire who owns Twitter wrote, and people could vote yes or no.

At 1:45 GMT, 59.6% of the nearly two million responses favored the former president coming back. He was banned from Twitter because he was part of a mob that attacked the US Capitol last year in an attempt to change the results of the 2020 election.

There was no sign that the unpredictable boss of SpaceX and Tesla would follow the poll’s results.

But on Friday, he also posted a Latin saying, “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” (The voice of the people is the voice of God), which suggested that Twitter users would make the decision.

He has done similar polls in the past. Last year, he asked his followers if he should sell stock in his company that makes electric cars. After that poll, he sold shares worth more than $1 billion.

Trump loved having a voice on Twitter, and more than 88 million people followed him.

He has said that he won’t go back to the famous site and will instead stay on his network, Truth Social, which he started after being banned from Twitter.
